| About Elephants |
Teeth Usually mammals have a set of baby teeth, they will be replaced by the adult teeth and they spend the rest of their life with this new set. But Elephants during their lifetime they change their molars(grinding teeth) 6 times. Teeth are brick like and grow at the back of their mouth and slowly move to the front. When last pair gets worn out the elephant dies out of starvation. Each tooth drops out when it reaches the front of elephant's jaw. By examining the teeth, we can calculate the age of the elephant. The final set of teeth grows when the elephant is around 40 years old. A molar weighs about 4Kg and 1 feet long. Tusks never stop growing. |
