Elephants in Puranas

Elephants have played a good role in our puranas also.  Eiravatha,  Kuvalayapeedam,  Gajendra in Gajendramoksham are some of them.

Airavata-The elephant of Indra.  It is white in colour. 

Kuvalayapeedham- The elephant deputed by Kamsa to kill Sreekrishna.  Sreekrishna killed the elephant and mahout.

Gajendramoksham- The sage Agasthya cursed the king Indradyumna to live as an elephant.  One day he was taking bath in lake with lot of lotus.  Then a crocodile caught  his legs.  The crocodile was a gandharva.  In the middle of the grief Gajendra picked lotus flowers with his trunk and offered it with great devotion and faith  to the great Mahavishnu.  At last Mahavishnu came and rescued Gajendra from the crocodile.
