Elephant Ornaments(Aanachamayangal)
 

Nettippattom  Muthukkuda  Aalavattom  Venchamaram  Kazhuthumani  Pallamoni Kachakkayar

 

Nettippattam-The glittering ornament that adorns the forehead of the Elephant.  It is made by copper and 24 grams of gold is used in its construction.
It consists of Chandrakkala(moon shaped metal part)-11 numbers, Circle shaped metal parts (Koomban kinnam-1,vattakkinnam-2,edakkinnam-37,nirakkinnam-40, cheru kumila-50000, kalanji-1).  These metal parts are tailored into the nettippattom base.  Different types of nettippattoms are available  Chooralpuli, Nagapatom, vandodu.  Chooral puli is the most beautiful ornament.  In Thripunithura Vasathan and team members from Thrissur Kunnathangadi is making the ornaments for the utsavam.

 

Muthukkuda-Decorated  silk parasols.  They are held on top of the elephants.  Muthukkuda is available in vast variety of materials and colours.  The 'Kudamattom' of Thrissur Pooram displays the variety of materials and decorations

Aalavattom-Fan (vishari) for the idol atop the elephant.  The fan is decorated with peacock feathers.  It will be raised according to the rhythms of panchavadya.

Venchamaram-White tufts used to fan the thidambu(the idol of the god).  Made from the fleece of sheep.
