Thekkady(Periyar Tiger reserve)

The journey to Thekkady is a rejuvanating experience with the nature through thick forests and wide spreading plantations.  The main attraction of the sanctuary is a lake formed by the Mullapperiyar dam across the Periyar river.  This lake is an artificial one and the boating through this lake explores the real wild life in front of us.  Facilities such as Elephant ride and trekking are also available inside the sanctuary.  This may be the safest spot,  to see an elephant herd.  We can see herd of elephants around the lake.  These amazing beauties of nature attracts a lot of tourists to Thekkady.  Elephant safari is the main attraction of this tourist spot. 

Thekkady is only 5Km from the border town of Kumaly.  The sanctuary is spread across an area of 777Sq.Km.

It is one of the 29 Tiger Reserves in India.  The wildlife at Periyar Tiger Reserve includes Sambar, Gaur, Panthers,  tigers,  reptiles,  monkeys,  wild pigs,  leopards,  jungle cats,  wild dogs,  spotted deer and other animals.
