Thripunithura Sree poornathrayeesha Temple

Legend behind the Poornathrayeesha temple

The story begins from a brahmin at puliyannur Illam in Thripunithura.  Whenever his wife delivered, the child will die.  Then he prayed to Arjuna the great warrior of 'panchpandavas' to save his 10th child.  Arjuna promised him to save the child. They both, the brahmin and Arjunan went to Vaikundam the place of Maha Vishnu.  There they saw bhagawan and Lakshmidevi was surrounded by the ten babies of the brahmin.  Vishnu handed over an idol and the babies to Arjuna.  The place where they get down is known as Muthukulangara.  Then the idol was kept at Poonithura Kottaram.  Then Arjuna sent Ganapathy to find a suitable place to install the idol.  Ganapathy found a holy place in poornavedapuri in the banks of poorna river and Ganapathy himself occupied the place.  Then Arjuna kicked off Ganapathy in the southern side of the sanctum and installed the idol in the midst of the gingely field.  Arjuna picked some gingely seeds and crushed this to get oil to light the lamp in front of the idol.  This oil is considered as a medicine and this lamp is kept evershining.
